Chemical Properties
Yellow-green oily liquid. melting point 2.1°C, boiling point 267°C, 149°C (2.13kPa), relative density 1.1903 (15/4°C), and refractive index 1.5425. Soluble in alcohol, ether, insoluble in water.
Uses
2-Nitrophenetole can be used as a solvent, an intermediate for organic synthesis of dyes.
Synthesis
2-Nitrophenetole was prepared by sodium phenate and sulfoethane in ethanol heated and refluxed for 24h.
