6-Methoxy-3-methyl-1H-indazole is a pharmaceutical intermediate compound that is used in the preparation of EGFR inhibitors.

General procedure for the synthesis of 6-methoxy-3-methyl-1H-indazole from 2-fluoro-4-methoxyacetophenone: 1-(2-fluoro-4-methoxyphenyl)ethan-1-one (2 g, 11.9 mmol) was dissolved in a mixture of 5 mL of hydrazine hydrate (85%) and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP, 15 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at 120°C for 24 hours. After completion of the reaction, the product was purified by column chromatography to afford 6-methoxy-3-methyl-1H-indazole (1.5 g, 78% yield).
