PLATELET ACTIVATING FACTOR-16, ANTAGONIST Usage And Synthesis
Uses
1-O-Hexadecyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(N,N,N-trimethyl)-hexanolamine is a PAF antagonist.
Definition
ChEBI: 1-o-hexadecyl-2-o-acetyl-sn-glyceryl-3-phosphoryl(n,n,n-trimethyl)hexanolamine is a glycerophospholipid.
Biological Activity
hexanolamino paf c-16 is a paf analog with paf agonist/antagonist properties.platelet activating factor (paf; c16), a phospholipid mediator of inflammation, is secreted by several cell types including arterial endothelial cells, and can activate polymorphonuclear leucocytes and monocytes via specific cell surface receptors. paf also stimulates the production of active oxygen species by human monocyte - derived macrophages [1].hexanolamino paf c-16, a paf analog with an increased inter-ionic distance in the polar head group, showed a greater potency in macrophages than platelets. in human monocyte-derived macrophages, hexanolamino paf c-16 was an antagonist and specifically inhibited the generation of superoxide ion (02-) and hydrogen peroxide (h202) in response to paf [1]. in both rabbit platelets and guinea-pig macrophages, hexanolamino paf c-16 acted as a partial agonist [2].
