NAPHTHOL AS ACETATE Usage And Synthesis

Uses

Naphthol AS Acetate（3-Acetoxy-2-naphthanilide） is a reactive chemical that reacts with basic dyes, crosslinkers, and other compounds. It has been used in the treatment of lymphocytic leukemia cells in vitro.

Application

3-Acetoxy-2-naphthanilide also inhibits the enzyme activities of acetylcholinesterase and phosphatases, suggesting that it may be useful for treating myelogenous leukemias. 3-Acetoxy-2-naphthanilide is also used to dye agarose gels in order to visualize DNA bands during electrophoresis.

Purification Methods

Recrystallise it from hot MeOH and dry in vacuo over P2O5. It has m 252o after sublimation at 210-215o. It is slightly soluble in AcOH, EtOH, CHCl3 or *C6H6. It is a fluorogenic substrate for albumin esterase activity.
