First Aid Measures

Ingestion

Emesis is not indicated due to the irritant nature of these agents. Charcoal - not recommended; it may promote vomiting and make endoscopic evaluation difficult. Dilution: immediately dilute with 4 to 8 ounces (120 to 240 ml) of milk or water (not to exceed 4 ounces/120 ml in a child). Neutralization - neutralization is not indicated. Although these agents are irritants, and therefore should not produce tissue damage, it is almost impossible to assure that a particular substance under a particular set of circumstances would not cause damage. Therefore, each patient should be examined with the idea that mucous membrane damage might have occurred.

Inhalation

Remove victim to fresh air; give artificial respiration if breathing has stopped; oxygen can be given by qualified personnel.

Skin

Flush immediately with water, wipe off, treat with 30% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), and wash with soap and water.

Eyes

Immediately wash with large amounts of water for at least 15 min.

Handling and Storage

Storage

Keep in a cool, dry, dark location in a tightly sealed container or cylinder. Keep away from incompatible materials, ignition sources and untrained individuals. Secure and label area. Protect containers/cylinders from physical damage.

Handling

All chemicals should be considered hazardous. Avoid direct physical contact. Use appropriate, approved safety equipment. Untrained individuals should not handle this chemical or its container. Handling should occur in a chemical fume hood.

Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Personal Protection

20 ppm or less: a type c supplied-air respirator with a full facepiece operated in pressure-demand or other positive pressure mode or with a full facepiece, helmet, or hood operated in continuous-flow mode.

Respirators

Greater than 20 ppm or entry and escape from unknown concentrations: self-contained breathing apparatus with a full facepiece operated in a pressure-demand or other positive pressure mode or a combination respirator which includes a type c supplied-air respirator with a full facepiece operated in pressure-demand or other positive pressure or continuous-flow mode and an auxiliary self-contained breathing apparatus operated in pressure-demand or other positive pressure mode.

Fire Fighting Measures

Flash Point

215

Fire Fighting

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus in addition to normal protective turnout clothing. Extinguish using water fog, foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Fire Potential

HIGHLY FLAMMABLE: Will be easily ignited by heat, sparks or flames.

Accidental Release Measures

Small spills/leaks

ELIMINATE all ignition sources and groumd all equipment used when handling the product. Do not touch spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Stop leak if you can do it without risk. A vapor suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors. FOR CHLOROSILANES, use AFFF alcohol-resistant medium expansion foam to reduce vapors. DO NOT GET WATER on spilled substance or inside containers. Cover with DRY earth, DRY sand, or other non-combustible material followed with plastic sheet to minimize spreading or contact with rain. Use clean non-sparking tools to collect material and place it into loosley covered plastic containers for later disposal.
