First Aid Measures

Ingestion

Do NOT induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. SPEED IS ESSENTIAL. A DOCTOR MUST BE NOTIFIED AT ONCE.

Inhalation

Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

Skin

Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.

Eyes

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid immediately.

Handling and Storage

Storage

Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a dry area. Keep under an argon blanket. Refrigerator (approx 4 C).

Handling

Use spark-proof tools and explosion proof equipment. Do not breathe dust, vapor, mist, or gas. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Use only in a chemical fume hood.

Hazards Identification

Inhalation

May be fatal if inhaled. Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract. May cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and inflammation of the gums and mouth.

Skin

Causes skin burns. Toxic in contact with skin.

Eyes

Causes eye burns. Lachrymator.

Ingestion

Poison by ingestion. Causes gastrointestinal tract burns.

Hazards

The material will burn, though it may require some effort to ignite. Fire produces irritating and poisonous gases. When heated to decomposition, it emits toxic fumes of chlorine-containing compounds.

Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Personal Protection

Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure. Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to minimize contact with skin.

Respirators

Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Always use a NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator when necessary.

Exposure Effects

May cause cancer in humans.
