First Aid Measures

Ingestion

If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.

Inhalation

Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

Skin

Flush skin with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid if irritation develops or persists.

Eyes

Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid immediately.

Handling and Storage

Storage

Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Material darkens on exposure to air.

Handling

Wash thoroughly after handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid contact with heat, sparks and flame. Do not ingest or inhale.

Hazards Identification

Inhalation

Dust is irritating to the respiratory tract. May cause asthmatic attacks due to allergic sensitization of the respiratory tract. May cause rhinitis.

Skin

Causes skin irritation. May be absorbed through the skin in harmful amounts. May cause skin sensitization, an allergic reaction, which becomes evident upon re-exposure to this material. May produce eczematoid contact dermatitis

Eyes

Causes eye irritation. May cause conjunctivitis and keratitis.

Ingestion

Harmful if swallowed. May cause irritation of the digestive tract. May cause liver and kidney damage. Ingestion may cause gastritis, vertigo, tremors, convulsions, and possible coma.

Hazards

When heated, vapors may form explosive mixtures with air: indoors, outdoors, and sewers explosion hazards.

Eyes: Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166. Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure. Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.

Respirators

Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Always use a NIOSH or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator when necessary.

Exposure Effects

Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause adverse reproductive effects.

Exposure limit(s)

TLV: 0.1 mg/m3 A4 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1997). MAK: 0.1 mg/m3; H, S, IIIB (1996) OSHA PEL: TWA 0.1 mg/m3 skin NIOSH REL: TWA 0.1 mg/m3 skin NIOSH IDLH: 25 mg/m3
