This compound exhibits characteristics of both olefins and ketones. When subjected to acidic conditions, it undergoes isomerization into 3-penten-2-one.

Uses

Used as synthetic reagent, spice, food additive.

Preparation

Synthesized from 3-penten-2-one by heating isomerization in oxalic acid solution.
