ETHIDIUM HOMODIMER Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

Description

Ethidium homodimer-1 is a weakly fluorescent, high-affinity nucleic acid stain.

Uses

ETHIDIUM HOMODIMER is used as staining dye for ssDNA, dsDNA, RNA, oligonucleotides, and triplex DNA. It does not cross intact cell membranes and can be used to test cell viability and it is also a reagent for the fluorimetric detection of nucleic acids.

Biological Activity

Ethidium homodimer is a red fluorescent dye. It cannot cross an intact plasma membrane, but can easily pass through a damaged plasma membrane. Ethidium homodimer is used to check membrane integrity.', 'One molecule of EthD-1 will non-selectively bind four base pairs in dsDNA.
