(+)-Ethyl D-lactate Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

Chemical Properties

(+)-Ethyl D-lactate has been shown to have a helical structure, which is different from the linear form of L-lactate. This difference has been modeled mathematically and confirmed by small-angle x-ray diffraction studies. (+)-Ethyl D-lactate has been shown to inhibit the virulence factor lipase in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an important pathogen in cystic fibrosis patients. The drug can also be used as a vaporiser for the treatment of bacterial infections such as P. aeruginosa infections in cystic fibrosis patients, which can cause high blood pressure when left untreated.

ChEBI: (+)-Ethyl D-lactate is the ethyl ester obtained of 2-hydroxypropanoic acid. It has a role as a metabolite. (+)-Ethyl D-lactate is a secondary alcohol, a lactate ester and an ethyl ester. It is functionally related to a 2-hydroxypropanoic acid.

Synthesis

(+)-Ethyl D-lactate is a synthetic compound that is used for the synthesis of lactates and other esters. It can be synthesized from ethyl alcohol and lactic acid by titration calorimetry.
