Uses

(N-Methyl-N-phenylamino)triphenylphosphonium Iodide is used to synthesis of amines from alcohols; synthesis of unsymmetrical sulfides; synthesis of alkenes from allyl alcohols; synthesis of 1,3-dienes.

Preparation

Preparative Method of (N-Methyl-N-phenylamino)triphenylphosphonium Iodide: phenyliminotriphenylphosphorane is reacted with excess Iodomethane at reflux for 2 h. Removal of MeI followed by recrystallization gives a quantitative yield.^[1]

storage

(N-Methyl-N-phenylamino)triphenylphosphonium Iodide stores in sealed bottle on bench. Do not breathe dust, fumes, or vapor. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use in a fume hood.
