Description

Mono sodium citrate, or sodium dihydrogen citrate, is an acid salt with the chemical formula NaH₂C₆H₅O₇, or C₃H₄OH(COOH)₂COONa. Since it has two remaining open spots on the citrate anion, it is used as a relatively strong sequestrant. It is used to prevent platelet clumping in blood samples. It is one of the 3 citric acid salts.

Uses

Sodium dihydrogencitrate has been employed:

as reductant and stabilizer during the synthesis of Fe₃O₄ Pt core/shell particles
in characterization of carbon-based electrode materials as cathode in half-cell configuration
in electrochemical reduction of proton at carbon fiber electrode in the presence and absence of Pt nanoparticles

Uses

Sodium dihydrogen citrate acts as a buffering agent and sequestrant. It is also employed as a reductant and stabilizer in the preparation of b>Fe3O4 platinum core/shell particles. Further, it is used in electrochemical reduction of proton at carbon fiber electrode in the presence and absence of platinum nanoparticles. In addition to this, it plays a useful role in characterization of carbon-based electrode materials as cathode in half-cell configuration.

Preparation

Monosodium citrate can be prepared by the direct reaction of sodium carbonate or bicarbonate with citric acid:
NaHCO₃(s) + C₆H₈O₇ (aq) → NaC₆H₇O₇ (aq) + CO₂ (g) + H₂O (l).

General Description

Sodium citrate is a useful setting retardant for improvement of properties of brushite cement.
