General steps: 1. 4-Iodo-1,2-dihydropyridin-2-one (500 mg, 2.26 mmol), iodomethane (296 μL, 4.75 mmol) and potassium carbonate (688 mg, 4.98 mmol) were suspended in acetonitrile (20 mL). 2. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. 3. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered to remove insoluble solids. 4. The solvent was removed by rotary evaporator under reduced pressure to give the crude product. 5. 5. The crude product was purified using column chromatography to afford 4-iodo-1-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one (411 mg, 77.3% yield) as a white solid. 6. The molecular ion peak (ES+) of the product was confirmed to be 236.0 [MH]+ by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) analysis. 7. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed a retention time (Rt) of 4.48 min and a purity of 99.6%.
