1,4,5,8-Tetrachloroanthraquinone is an intermediate used to prepare trianthrimides as potential high-performance pigments. It can also be used to synthesize γ-aminobutyric acid analogs as novel potent GABA-AT (γ-aminobutyrate aminotransferase) inhibitors.

Synthesis

Method 1: Put 3000kg of 20% fuming sulfuric acid in chlorination pot, start stirring, then add 250kg anthraquinone, warm up to 90-100, continue stirring to dissolve for 1 hour and then add 1kg of iodine of locator agent, after that, pass into chlorine, the temperature of chlorine pass is controlled at 50-150, the reaction is for 100-200 hours, then add 1000kg of 92.5% sulfuric acid to dilute it, filter and Acid washing, then water washing to neutral, drying to get tetrachloroanthraquinone to be used;
