Uses
Magnesium tert-butoxide is used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. It is also used in deprotonation reactions for organic syntheses.
Synthesis
Take 1800g of tert-butyl acetate in 2000ml with stirring in a four-necked flask, and then add 6.8mL catalyst TZB, the reaction flask device has an inner diameter of 15mm height of 800mm precision distillation column, under the protection of N2 heated to 95 , to 15ml/min drop acceleration rate to add 409g of 14.1% methanol magnesium methanol solution, at the beginning of the white precipitate. When the temperature at the top of the tower stabilized at 97 C for a long time (1 hour), stop the distillation reaction time of about 6 hours. The reaction mixture under N2 protection under reduced pressure filtration, a small amount of tert-butyl acetate to wash the filter cake, and then dry the filter cake under reduced pressure to obtain 100 grams of white porous solid magnesium tert-butanol, the purity of 99.5%.
