Description
tert-Butyl (1-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyclopropyl)carbamate is a pharmaceutical intermediate compound. Its molecular structure contains a tert-butoxycarbonyl (Boc) group and a cyclopropane ring substituted with a hydroxyethyl group. The Boc group is a classic protecting group for amino groups and can be selectively deprotected in subsequent synthesis. The hydroxyl group in the hydroxyethyl moiety can be used to introduce various functional groups via reactions such as etherification, esterification and oxidation, whilst the three-membered cyclopropyl ring structure can modulate the molecular conformation and lipophilicity, enabling the construction of drug molecules containing cyclopropylamine fragments (such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and centrally active drugs).
Uses
Carbamic acid, [1-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyclopropyl]-, 1,1-dimethylethyl ester (9CI) is a hydrocarbon derivative used in organic synthesis.
Hazard

Chemical Reactivity
Tert-butyl N-[1-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyclopropyl]carbamate reacts with strong oxidizing agents, it's thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating gases and vapors.
