Rhodinyl butyrate has a fruity, sweet odor similar to rose with a sweet taste reminiscent of blackberry.

Occurrence

Reported found in geranium essential oil.

Preparation

By esterification of rhodinol, as for geraniol and linalool.

Metabolism

Open-chain olefinic terpene esters are presumably hydrolysed to the alcohol and the acid (Fassett, 1963). In the rabbit, the open-chain terpenes undergo ω-oxidation (Williams, 1959).
