Uses

Ammonium ferric sulfate dodecahydrate may be used as a catalyst to synthesize:

  • Isoamyl acetate from acetic acid and isoamyl alcohol.
  • 2-Amino-5-(5-nitro-2-thienyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole from 5-nitrothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde thiosemicarbazone via oxidative cyclization.

Ferric alum: One of the alums,K2SO4.Fe2(SO4)3.24H2O, in which thealuminium ion Al3+ is replaced bythe iron(III) (ferric) ion Fe3+.

Purification Methods
