Uses

2,3-Dihydroxypropyl acrylate is a synthetic or pharmaceutical intermediate used in the preparation of drugs for diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular abnormalities, and also in the preparation of drug delivery materials.

Synthesis

One synthesis method comprises reacting DL-1,2-isopropylidene glycerol with triethylamine in dichloromethane, then adding acryloyl chloride dropwise in an ice bath, reacting overnight, diluting with dichloromethane, washing with water, drying with sodium sulfate, and evaporating in vacuo. The crude product is dissolved in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran and hydrochloric acid, stirred at room temperature overnight, neutralized with sodium carbonate to generate hydrochloric acid, precipitated with tetrahydrofuran, dried with sodium sulfate, evaporated in vacuo, and finally purified by column chromatography to obtain a light yellow liquid 2,3-Dihydroxypropyl acrylate.
