Synthesis

Step 1: Preparation of 2-bromo-6-(chloromethyl)pyridine 6-Bromopyridine-2-methanol (5.00 g, 25.5 mmol) was dissolved in chloroform (30 ml), thionyl chloride (2.8 ml, 38.3 mmol) was added slowly and the reaction was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. After the reaction was completed, the reaction solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was neutralized by adding saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution, and the precipitate was collected by filtration. After washing the precipitate with water, it was dried under vacuum to obtain white solid 2-bromo-6-(chloromethyl)pyridine (5.20 g, 99% yield).
