BIS(2-ETHYLHEXYL)ISOPHTHALATE Usage And Synthesis

Chemical Properties

Di(2-ethylhexyl) isophthalate has a water solubility of less than 0.1 g/100mL at 16℃. It is a colorless liquid.

General Description

Clear light yellow viscous liquid.

Air & Water Reactions

Insoluble in water.

Reactivity Profile

BIS(2-ETHYLHEXYL)ISOPHTHALATE is an ester. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides.

Health Hazard

ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: When heated to decomposition BIS(2-ETHYLHEXYL)ISOPHTHALATE emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.

Fire Hazard

BIS(2-ETHYLHEXYL)ISOPHTHALATE is probably combustible.
