Uses

7-Bromoquinoxalin-2(1H)-one was used to study preparation and serotoninmimetic activity of piperazinylquinoxalines.

General procedure for the synthesis of 7-bromo-2(1H)-quinoxalinone from 2-hydroxyquinoxaline: To a solution of quinoxalin-2(1H)-one (54.64 g, 374 mmol, 1.0 eq.) in acetic acid (1000 mL) was slowly added a solution of bromine (19.18 mL, 374 mmol, 1.0 eq.) in acetic acid (200 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was poured into ice water. The precipitate was collected by filtration and dried to afford 7-bromoquinoxalin-2(1H)-one as an off-white solid (74 g, 88% yield).
