Cyclobutylmethylamine Usage And Synthesis

Uses

It is an intermediate in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical research and development, and can be used in laboratory organic synthesis and chemical and pharmaceutical research and development processes.

Synthesis

Borane (1M solution in THF, 68 ml, 67.8 mmol) was added dropwise to a cooled (0??C) solution of cyclobutanenitrile (5.0 g, 61.6 mmol) in THF (7 ml) under nitrogen. The mixture was warmed to room temperature and heated to reflux for 17 hours. The mixture was then cooled to 0??C and quenched by addition of MeOH (81 ml). The mixture was warmed to room temperature and the solvent was removed. The substance was redissolved in MeOH (50 ml) and acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid. HCl (50 ml) was added and then heated to reflux for 2 hours. The solvent was removed and the residue was ground with Et 2 O and a white powder (4.51 g) was filtered.
