Methyl Green zinc chloride salt Usage And Synthesis
Description
Methyl Green, Zinc chloride salt (chemical formula: C27H35Cl4N3Zn) is the zinc chloride salt form of Methyl green. Methyl green is a cationic or positive charged stain. Since it can binds selectively to the AT-rich regions of native DNA, it is mainly used for the DNA and RNA staining in the cell nuclei. Methyl Green, Zinc chloride Salt, as a CERTISTAIN® dry dye for DNA staining, it has many application: used as a tracking dye in acid buffers for electrophoresis; used to demonstrate DNA and RNA in tissues sections in the Methyl Green-Pyronin method; used as an exclusion viability stain for cells. In addition, it can also be used in fluorimetric assay and flow cytometry.

Chemical Properties
maroon to reddish-brown crystals
Uses
Methyl Green is a DNA stain used as a tracking dye in acid buffers for electrophoresis. It helps differentiate bacteria and is also a tissue stain for nucleoli and mitochondria in tissues. It is used with Bismarck Brown frequently.
Biological Activity
Marker dye for DNA in acid and neutral media.
Methyl green is mainly used as a DNA stain in histochemistry. at low concentrations it binds selectively to AT-rich regions of native DNA. However, at high concentrations it is present at all available DNA sites.
Purification Methods
Crystallise the dye from hot water. [Beilstein 13 IV 2286.]
