Tricyclopentadiene Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Tricyclopentadiene is a White crystals or colorless, opaque, fused mass. Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Peculiar earthy, mossy-musty odor, sweet-camphoraceous, warm and having some of the typical notes of Patchouli.
Uses
Tricyclopentadiene (TCPD), is the product of dicyclopentadiene (D439350) via cycloaddition, has been shown to be a promising candidate as a high-energy fuel.
Application
Tricyclopentadiene has found some use in perfumery since it is very stable in soap, blends well with Oakmoss, Patchouli, Lavender, Opopanax, Ambregris materials, Sandalwood materials, etc.
Synthesis
Tricyclopentadiene is synthesized by Polymerization of Dicyclopentadiene, e.g. by heating. This hydrocarbon is obtained by self-condensation of Cyclopentadiene.
