Chemical Properties

Sulfadimethoxine, chemical formula C12H14N4O2S, molecular weight 278.33, usually appearing as a white crystalline powder, was first synthesized in the 1940s and is a member of the family of sulfonamide antibiotics. Sulfonamide antibiotics were first discovered by German chemist Gerhard Domagk in the late 1930s, and the discovery of this class of drugs revolutionized the field of medicine. Sulfadimethoxine, as part of this family, later became an important broad-spectrum antibiotic.

Uses

Sulfamethazine is an antibiotic used to clinically treat bronchitis, prostatitis and urinary tract infections. It is used in disposition and depletion kinetic studies. It is used to develop detection techniques for quantification in fluids such as cows’ milk, honey and swine urine.
