P-TOLUENESULFONYLMETHYL CHLORIDE is used for synthesis of α,β-epoxy sulfones and alkylated sulfones; reacts with electrophilic arenes and heterocyclic arenes; source of α-p-tolylsulfonyl radicals.

Synthesis

P-TOLUENESULFONYLMETHYL CHLORIDE is synthesized by oxidation of the corresponding sulfoxide1or by reaction of sodium ptoluenesulfinate with bromochloromethane.2
