Chemical Properties

White crystalline powder, soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, and DMSO, derived from Uncaria rhynchophylla.

Uses

Corynoxeine is an alkaloid isolated from extraction of Uncaria rhynchophylla, is useful in the treatment of vascular diseases and protection against ischemia-induced neuronal damage.

Synthesis

Corynoxeine is extracted by refluxing Uncaria hooks with ethyl acetate for 2 h (3), and the extract is separated on silica gel column and purified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to obtain dehydrocorynoxeine and isodehydrocorynoxeine, which were confirmed to be dehydrocorynoxeine and isodehydrocorynoxeine by comparing the 1H NMR and 13CNMR spectra of the standard products and the retention time and m/z of the molecular ion peaks with those of the standard products by LC-MS.
