Nonaethylene glycol Chemical Properties,Usage,Production

Description

Nonaethylene glycol is a polymer consisting of ethylene glycol repeating units and terminal hydroxyl groups. The ethylene glycol units have high water solubility properties. The hydroxyl groups can react in order to further derivatize the compound.

Uses

HO-PEG9-OH is used as a reactant in the selective inhibition of human brain tumor cells through quantum-dot-based siRNA delivery.

Definition

ChEBI: Nonaethylene glycol is a poly(ethylene glycol).

Synthesis

Nonaethylene glycol could be synthesized by reacting the monosodium salt of triethylene glycol with the ditosylate of triethylene glycol [2] in solution in tetrahydrofuran. A small amount of less pure pentadecaethylene glycol was also isolated from the preparation[1].
