A short bifunctional PEG2-based linker with thiol (SH-) and hydroxyl (OH-) functional groups. Thiols are nucleophilic and participate in many reactions with electrophiles.

Thiols rapidly react with gold surfaces and nanoparticles, forming self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). Thiol reagent can be used to cover gold with a hydrophilic monolayer.

Uses

2-(2-Mercaptoethoxy)ethanol is used in preparation method of curing type hydrotreating catalyst.
