Chemical Properties

LIGHT YELLOW CRYSTALLINE POWDER

Uses

2-Chloro-3,5-dinitropyridine is used as efficient pie electron acceptor in the preparation of charge transfer complexes with aniline and its derivatives acting as donors.

Purification Methods

Dissolve it in CHCl3, shake it with saturated NaHCO3, dry (MgSO4), evaporate and apply to an Al2O3 column, elute with pet ether (b 60-80o), evaporate and recrystallise it from *C6H6 or pet ether. [Ochiai & Kaneko Chem Pharm Bull Jpn 8 28 1960, Plazek Recl Trav Chim, Pays-Bas 72 573 1953, Beilstein 20/5 V 458.]
