Uses

It is employed as an intermediate used in the production of dyestuff and cosmetics. It is also used to partially open the rigid oxetane chain and to identify Hsp70 modulators.

Application

3-Ethoxypropylamine is mainly used for the synthesis of disperse red 90.

Synthesis

Synthesis method (from patent CN109369423B):
1. Acrylonitrile undergoes Michael addition with ethanol catalyzed by sodium ethoxide to yield 3-ethoxypropionitrile.
2. 3-Ethoxypropionitrile is hydrogenated under pressure in the presence of modified Raney Ni catalyst and liquid ammonia to give 3-ethoxypropylamine.
