Uses

2-Thiazolesulfonyl chloride is used for preparation of substituted thiazolesulfonamides as antiglaucoma agents.

Synthesis

To a suspension of 2-mercaptothiazole (0.16 g, 1.37 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (14 mL) was added water (7 mL) followed by N-chlorosuccinimide (0.75 g, 5.6 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred vigorously for 1.5 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with CH2Cl2, washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3, dried and concentrated in vacuo to give 2-thiazolesulfonyl chloride in a yield of 0.25g.
