Chemical Properties

White crystals, easily soluble in water, methanol, and ethanol, insoluble in low-polarity solvents such as acetone and ethyl acetate, derived from Platycodon grandiflorum.

Uses

Platycodin D is a known inhibitor of the proliferation of human gastric cancer cells as well as inducing apoptosis. It also causes anti-atherosclerotic.

Biological Activity

Platycodin D elicits strong anti-cancer properties and exhibits cytotoxicity against several cancer cell lines of both in vitro and in vivo origin. It exerts anti-inflammatory and protective effects against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) by upregulating liver-X receptors α (LXRα) and ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) signaling pathway. It also possesses protective effects against Cisplatin (CDDP)-induced nephrotoxicity in mice.
