Uses

1-Bromo-2-chloroethane was used in regio- and diastereoselective synthesis of 2-alkylidenetetrahydrofurans. 1-Bromo-2-chloroethane is used as a solvent and as an intermediate for organic synthesis. It is used as a as fumigant.

Synthesis

Take chloroethanol as raw material, react with phosphorus tribromide under stirring, the reaction is carried out at 20~30??, after the completion of the reaction, it is washed with diluent and water successively, static layering, after separating out the aqueous layer, drying is carried out, and finally distillation under reduced pressure can be produced.

Purification Methods

Wash it with conc H2SO4, water, 10% Na2CO3 solution, and again with water, then dry with CaCl2 and fractionally distil before use. [Beilstein 1 H 89, 1 I 28, 1 II 61, 1 III 179, 1 IV 155.]
