METHYLENEDIAMINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE Usage And Synthesis

Uses

The Dihydrochloride salt of Methanediamine (M260225) in used in synthesizing FK-506 3’-Methyl Ether (F370010).

General Description

White granular solid. Decomposes at approximately 275°F (changes to white puffy solid), then slowly darkens until total decomposition at approximately 464°F.

Air & Water Reactions

Water soluble.

Reactivity Profile

An acidic organic salt of an amine. In aqueous solution, behaves as an acid. Materials in this group are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydrogen ions and have pH's of less than 7.0. They react as acids to neutralize bases. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of inorganic acids, inorganic oxoacids, and carboxylic acid. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible. Many of these compounds catalyze organic reactions.

Fire Hazard

Flash point data for METHYLENEDIAMINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE are not available; however, METHYLENEDIAMINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE is probably combustible.
