3,4-Dimethylisoxazol-5-amine Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
White to Off-White Cyrstalline Solid
General Description
5-amino-3,4-dimethylisoxazole formed complexes with cobalt(II) and copper(II). The kinetics of gas-phase thermal isomerization of 5-amino-3,4-dimethylisoxazole was studied.
Synthesis
4468-47-7
19947-75-2
General procedure for the synthesis of 3,4-dimethylisoxazol-5-amine using 2-methyl-3-oxobutanenitrile as starting material: 2-methyl-3-oxobutanenitrile (9.7 g, 0.1 mol), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (7 g, 0.1 mol), and water (20 mL) were mixed, followed by the slow dropwise addition of NaOH aqueous solution (4 g dissolved in 10 mL of water) at 40 °C. After the dropwise addition, the reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 3 hours. After completion of the reaction, it was cooled to room temperature and phase separation was carried out. After the organic layer was allowed to stand overnight, filtration afforded the white crystalline product 3,4-dimethylisoxazol-5-amine (3.66 g, yield 32.7%) with a melting point of 123-125 °C.
