Synthesis

U.S. Patent 3,359,287 discusses the preparation of melengestrol acetate by dehydrogenating 17α-hydroxy-6α-methyl-16-methylenepregn-4-en-3,20-dione-17-acetate with chloroquinone. U.S. Patent 4,154,748 discusses an interchangeable method in which melengestrol acetate is prepared by a method comprising acetylation of 17α-hydroxy-6-methyl-16-methylenepregn-4,6-diene-3,20-dione.
