Citronellyl tiglate Usage And Synthesis

Chemical Properties

Citronellyl Tiglate is a liquid with a floral, rosy, fruity, mushroomlike odor. It is used in geranium oil reconstitutions.

Colorless liquid; winey rosy aroma.

Occurrence

Reported found in geranium petiole oil India (3.93%), geranium stem oil India (1.88%), geranium leaf oil Rwanda (0.14%) and geranium leaf oil India (1.40%).

Uses

Rarely offered commercially, Citronellyl tiglate has been suggested for use in floral and herbaceous fragrances, including better soap perfumes. It has considerable power and good effect in i soap, but there are many related chemicals, some less expensive, others more freely available, with similar effects.

Preparation

By direct esterification of citronellol with 2-butenoic acid under azeotropic conditions (Arctander. 1969).
