Lotusine Usage And Synthesis

Description

A quaternary benzylisoquinoline alkaloid found in the seeds of Neiumbo nuci· [era, the base occurs in the non-phenolic fraction of the alkaloidal extract. Two phenolic hydroxyl groups and a methoxyl group are present.

Chemical Properties

White crystals, soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, and DMSO, derived from lotus seeds Nelumbo nucifera.

Uses

Lotusine is a pure alkaloid extracted from the green seed embryo of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. Lotusine shows effects on the action potentials in myocardium and slow inward current in cardiac Purkinje fibers[1].
