Uses
meso-Tetraphenylporphine is a photosensitizer that is often used to create coordination complexes with metals such as cobalt and rhodium. Cobalt meso-tetraphenylporphrine is used as a hydrogen catalyst. Meso-tetraphenylporphrine compounds are used as inhibitors of microtubule assembly in human cervix carcinoma cells.

Purification Methods
Purify TPP by chromatography on neutral (Grade I) alumina, and recrystallisation from CH2Cl2/MeOH or *C6H6. It forms complexes with metals. [Yamashita et al. J Phys Chem 91 3055 1987, Beilstein 26 III/IV 1958.]
