Preparation

Obtained by photocatalytic oxidation of 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,2-ethanediol using silica-encapsulated H3PW12O40 as photocatalyst in acetonitrile for 1 h at r.t. under oxygen as the sole reoxidant of the catalyst
Also obtained by treatment of 4-methoxyacetophenone with iodosobenzene in methanolic sodium hydroxide (50%).
