Rubidium nitrate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
solid (data sheet from a supplier
Uses
Rubidium nitrate used in infrared radiation producing pyrotechnic compositions as a colorant and an oxidizer. It is also used as a raw material for preparation of other rubidium compounds and rubidium metal, for manufacture of catalysts and in scintillation counters. It is rarely used in fireworks to produce a red-violet colour.
Flammability and Explosibility
Not classified
Synthesis
Rubidium nitrate can be made by reacting rubidium hydroxide or rubidium carbonate with nitric acid.
Purification Methods
Crystallise the nitrate from hot water (0.25mL/g) by cooling to room temperature.
