Uses

Labeled analogue of (-)-erythro-Ephedrine Sulfate, the sulfate salt of the α- and β-adrenergic agonist Ephedrine. (-)-erythro-Ephedrine is a sympathomimetic amine with stimulant properties. (-)-erythr o-Ephedrine Sulfate is a bronchodilator used in the treatment of asthma.

brand name

Isofedrol (Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, Germany).

General Description

White microcrystalline powder. Odorless. Central nervous system stimulant.

Air & Water Reactions

Water soluble.

Reactivity Profile

Aqueous solution are slightly acidic. Ephedrine sulfate is incompatible with strong oxidizers.

Fire Hazard

Flash point data for Ephedrine sulfate are not available; however, Ephedrine sulfate is probably combustible.

Safety Profile

Poison by intravenous, intraperitoneal, and subcutaneous routes. Moderately toxic by ingestion. Human systemic effects by intravenous route: increased pulse rate and blood pressure. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NOx and SOx. See also EPHEDRINE.
