Uses

A metabolite of Dopamine and Noradrenaline.

Biochem/physiol Actions

α-Methyl-DL-tyrosine (α-MT) prevents hyperactivity, sniffing-licking-gnawing syndrome, anorexia and ameliorates certain effects of amphetamine. It inhibits dopamine production and prevents apoptosis stimulated by mutant α-synuclein.

in vivo

α-Methyltyrosine methyl ester hydrochloride (200-1000 mg/kg; p.o.; once a day; 4 weeks) causes renal lesions with the formation of calculi in the urinary tract in rats^[1].
