N,N'-Ethylenebis(stearamide) Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Oily Liquid
Uses
N,N'-Ethylenebis(stearamide) is a bis-amide polymer additive that lowers the temperature at which the asphalt softens. It is used as processing aid for resins and polymers and as defoaming agent. It is traditionally used as lubricant and binder for cold compaction of powdered metal parts.
Uses
Glyco Asphalt Modifier is a bis-amide polymer additive that lowers the temperature at which the asphalt softens.
Uses
Acrawax(R) C is used as processing aid for resins and polymers and as defoaming agent. Acrawax(R) C atomized is traditionally used as lubricant and binder for cold compaction of powdered metal parts.
Uses
Acrawax(R) C is used as a processing aid for resins and polymers and as a defoaming agent. Acrawax(R) C beaded is an effective lubricant, processing aid, slip additive and pigment dispersant aid for most polymers.
Uses
Glycowax(R) 765 is an ethylenebisstearamide, specifically developed to afford low, consistent viscosities and superior cost performance in paper pulp defoamer applications. Useful as defoamer for paper making and textile processing . Product Data Sheet
General Description
N,N′-Ethylenebis(stearamide) (EBS) is a synthetic wax that has fatty amide groups that can interact with the surface of a variety of nanoparticles. It can be used for a wide range of applications such as lubricants, activators and dispersing agents that reduce the friction in the system and increase the rate of processing.
Synthesis

General procedure: stearic acid with 0.28% of a complex antioxidant (mass ratio of antioxidant 1076, antioxidant DLTDP to antioxidant T501 is 0.20: 0.36: 1) was added to a reactor and stirred for 10 minutes under N2 atmosphere. Subsequently, the mixture was slowly heated to 100 °C until the stearic acid was completely melted. Next, a composite catalyst consisting of 0.20% by weight of the total weight of ethylenediamine and stearic acid (the mass ratio of p-toluenesulfonic acid/SAPO-34-loaded solid acid catalyst to phosphoric acid/SiO2-Al2O3-loaded solid acid catalyst was 1:3.5) was added. The reaction was kept at a constant temperature for 2 hours. After that, the temperature was slowly increased to 180 °C, and the constant temperature reaction was continued for 4 h for dehydration reaction, and the water produced during the reaction was carried out by N2. After completion of the reaction, the heating was stopped and the material was discharged after cooling to 160°C. The molar ratio of stearic acid to ethylenediamine was 1: 0.58. The yield of N,N'-ethylene bis-stearamide was obtained by the above steps.
Toxics Screening Level
The initial threshold screening level (ITSL) for N,N'-ethylene bis-octadecanamide is 0.1 μg/m3 (annual averaging time).
