ISOAMYL SALICYLATE Usage And Synthesis

Uses

Isoamyl salicylate can be used as a flavoring agent to formulate fruit-scented flavorings for food, and is a permitted edible flavoring agent according to my country's GB2760-1996 standard. It can also be used to formulate floral flavorings such as carnation, orchid, clover, and hyacinth for cosmetics and soaps. This product is one of the commonly used and relatively important salicylates. Internationally, it is commonly used in the formulation of orchid-type flavorings.

Definition

ChEBI: Isoamyl salicylate is a benzoate ester and a member of phenols. It is functionally related to a salicylic acid.

Synthesis

Taking salicylic acid and isopentyl alcohol as raw materials, in the presence of sulfuric acid, esterification is carried out, the oil phase is taken out, and the residual salicylic acid is washed away with sodium carbonate, and then the isopentyl salicylate can be obtained by distillation and refinement.
