Sepia (dye) Usage And Synthesis

Application

Melanin is a general term for a class of complex and diverse phenolic or indole-based biomolecules that are ubiquitous in the biological world. It provides structural strength to organisms and protects them from environmental stresses such as ultraviolet radiation, ionizing radiation, heavy metal pollution, and extreme temperatures. Melanin is not only a photoprotectant, anti-radiation agent, chelating agent, biological antioxidant, and immune booster, but also a type of bio-semiconductor material and photoelectric transmission material. Recent studies have also discovered that melanin has anti-snake venom properties, inhibits HIV replication, and can treat Parkinson's disease. Therefore, melanin has broad application prospects in medicine, cosmetics, food, and electronics.

Chemical Properties

Sepia (dye) is a biological protective pigment that exists widely in animals, plants and microorganisms. It is a general term for a class of phenolic or indole biological macromolecular pigments with complex and diverse structures.

Mechanism of action

Sepia (dye) is a class of photoprotectants, anti-radiation agents, chelating agents, biological antioxidants and immunostimulants, which can resist snake venom, inhibit HIV replication and treat Parkinson's disease.

Synthesis

1) Take the peel of fresh pussy fruit, wash it with water and dry it for spare time; take 100 grams of pussy fruit peel and extract it with 2 liters of ammonia with a volume concentration of 10% at room temperature for 12 hours, and filter it through double gauze to separate the pussy fruit peel and other impurities, and then get the extraction liquid; 2) adjust the pH of the extraction solution to 2.5 with 2 mol/L hydrochloric acid to precipitate the melanin, extract and filter to separate the melanin precipitate, and then place the melanin precipitate in a vacuum environment at 50??C to dry for 2 hours to obtain the crude extract of melanin; 3) put 4 grams of crude extract of melanin into 100 ml of 7 mol/L hydrochloric acid, and hydrolyze it in a water bath at 100??C for 6 hours, and then separate the melanin precipitate by filtration extraction to obtain melanin; 4) dissolve the obtained melanin in 100 ml of ammonia with a volume concentration of 10%, add 40 ml of petroleum ether, extract at room temperature and normal pressure, and so on for 10 times; then add 40 ml of chloroform, extract at room temperature and normal pressure, and so on for 8 times; 5) the extract obtained in step 4) with 1mo1 / L of hydrochloric acid to adjust its pH value to 2.5, filtration to separate out the melanin precipitate, with distilled water to wash to pH 7, and then placed in a vacuum environment at 40 ?? drying for 2 hours, to get the finished product melanin.
