Levan - from Serratia Levanicum is an agent for prevention or remediation of dementia and compound containing same.

Uses

Levan from Erwinia herbicola has been used as a:

standard for the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy analysis of levan produced by Bacillus licheniformis NS032 in sugar beet molasses-based medium
polysaccharide substrate to test the ability of Prevotella copri isolates to grow when polysaccharides were provided as the sole carbon source in vitro
substrate in levanase activity assay

Uses

Levan is a fructose derivative, it is moisturizing and anti-inflammatory, it is also used to help improve skin barrier function.

General Description

Levan is a polysaccharide produced by some microorganisms and plants. It is a non-typical biopolymer composed of fructose units linked by β-(2→6). Levan is an exopolysaccharide (synthesized outside the cell).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Levan has various industrial applications like cosmetics, medicine, or nanotechnology. It might exhibit anti-hyperglycemic effect and anti-tumor action, prevent diabetes-induced oxidative stress and increase catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the heart. Levan is also recognized for its immunomodulating and prebiotic actions.
