Uses

It is used for research and clinical diagnostic assays for liver disease. Alanine transaminase (GPT/ALT) is used in multi-analyte clinical chemistry controls and calibrators for major IVD manufacturers. The alanine aminotransferase (ALT) blood test is typically used to detect liver injury. Glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) is localized majorly in the liver.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) mediates the transfer of the amino group to α-ketoglutarate from l-alanine. It plays a key role in gluconeogenesis and amino acid metabolism. The role of GPT in various kinds of tumors has been reported.
